Children's Dentistry

Is Your Child Experiencing:

  • Early tooth decay or cavities
  • Trouble with proper brushing habits
  • Difficulty with new teeth erupting or alignment issues
  • Fear or anxiety about visiting the dentist

If your child is experiencing any of these concerns, we are here to help guide them toward a lifetime of healthy smiles.

What Is Children's Dentistry?

Children’s dentistry focuses on the dental care and development of children from infancy to adolescence. It includes regular check-ups, preventive treatments like fluoride varnishing, and advice on oral hygiene routines tailored to your child’s stage of development.

We aim to make dental visits positive and educational experiences that set the foundation for your child’s oral health.

Why Is Children’s Dentistry Important?

  • Prevent tooth decay and cavities
  • Promote healthy growth of adult teeth
  • Establish lifelong habits of good oral hygiene
  • Detect issues like overcrowding, misalignment, or other dental concerns early
  • Protect against oral diseases, including gum disease and tooth loss

Regular dental care is essential to ensure your child’s teeth and gums stay healthy as they grow.

Children’s Dentistry FAQs

If your child loses a baby tooth unexpectedly, such as through an accident or while playing sports, avoid trying to re-insert the tooth as it could harm the adult tooth below the gum. Instead, have your child bite down gently on a clean cloth to stop any bleeding. Applying a cold compress can help soothe the area and reduce swelling. If you’re concerned about your child’s well-being, it’s always a good idea to seek medical attention or visit your local hospital.

Thumb sucking, if continued for too long, can cause the teeth to shift outward and may lead to misalignment. It can also affect the natural development of the mouth, narrowing it during its growth. If your child continues to suck their thumb past the age of 4, it’s important to see your dentist. Early intervention can help prevent any developmental issues that might arise.

Teeth brushing should begin when your child’s first tooth emerges. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a gentle technique, applying only a smear of toothpaste. Once your child reaches around 7 years old, you can increase the amount of toothpaste to a pea-sized amount. This will help establish a solid foundation for healthy oral hygiene habits.

Your child’s first dental visit should ideally occur when their first tooth appears. However, it’s also helpful to bring them to your appointments before this to familiarize them with the dental environment. Early exposure to the sounds, smells, and sights of the dentist’s office can make them feel more comfortable and less anxious during their own visits.
