What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a prosthetic device that replaces missing teeth. It consists of a bridge, which is a series of artificial teeth and crowns that are attached to the teeth on either side of the gap. Bridges can be supported by natural teeth or dental implants.

Benefits Of Dental Bridges

  • Improved Appearance: Bridges can give you a natural-looking smile.
  • Enhanced Function: They can restore your ability to chew and speak clearly.
  • Boosted Confidence: A beautiful smile can boost your self-esteem.

Dental Bridges FAQs

With proper care, dental bridges can last between 10 to 15 years or longer. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are key to extending the lifespan of a bridge.

The procedure typically requires two visits. During the first visit, the dentist prepares the supporting teeth and takes impressions to create the bridge. At the second visit, the custom-made bridge is fitted and cemented into place.

Care for a dental bridge the same way you care for your natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily and use a fluoride mouthwash. You may also need to use a special floss threader to clean under the bridge.

Will a dental bridge affect my ability to speak or eat?

It may take a few days to adjust, but once you’re used to the dental bridge, it should not affect your ability to speak or eat. In fact, it can help restore proper chewing and speech function that may have been affected by missing teeth.
